Professional Training (Level 2) |
|

In Germany, professional training at level 2 is required for the independent operation of a specialised hearing aid acoustics company.
There are two options for such training:
Studies at the University of Applied Science
The Audiology Campus in Lübeck offers academic studies of hearing aid acoustics as a six-semester programme which concludes with the internationally recognised degree of a Bachelor of Science in Hearing Aid Acoustics. The academic programme combines preceding vocational training as a hearing aid acoustician with studies at a University of Applied Science.
Requirements for the course are vocational training as a hearing aid acoustician (level 1) and higher education entrance qualification.
The course of studies is geared towards young people who want to work at a high professional level, use their practical knowledge and assume management positions in the field of hearing aid acoustics.
The academic programme combines vocational training as a hearing aid acoustician with a course of studies at a University of Applied Science and is consequently very practice-oriented.
The curriculum is based on the following three key fields:
- Technology and mathematical science
- Hearing aid acoustics and medical audiology
- Business administration and economics
For details, see www.fh-luebeck.de
Further Universities of Applied Science in hearing aid acoustics are situated in Oldenburg (Lower Saxony) and in Aalen.
The Academy for Hearing Aid Acoustics in Lübeck offers a master craftsman course with a duration of approx. one year. The course expands and builds on the curriculum of level 1 training. Students should preferably have gathered 1-2 years of practical work experience after completion of level 1 training before enrolling in the master craftsman course.

The master craftsman course covers the following subjects:
- Vocational theory
- Vocational practice
- Economics and law
- Vocational education
With applied teaching on a scientific basis, the course of studies prepares students to work as self-employed hearing aid acousticians. It concludes with a comprehensive examination, and the examination committees are subject to state supervision. The course of studies includes the requirements for acquiring the A.E.A. Diploma. The diploma is recognised by partners of the A.E.A. (Association of the European Hearing Aid Acousticians) and is an essential element in harmonising vocational training at the European level.
During the master craftsman course of studies, students will have an opportunity to write a specialised final paper or diploma thesis. The subject of the thesis must be chosen from the specialised fields of audiology and hearing aid acoustics, and must be pertinent to the vocational practice of hearing aid acousticians. For details, see www.aha-luebeck.de
In addition, compact courses to prepare for the master craftsman examination are offered at various venues in Germany. Such training courses do not include acquisition of the A.E.A. Diploma, and do not enjoy the same recognition in other European countries as studies at a college of higher education and master craftsman courses.
